Our Materials

At elsket, every material earns its place. We choose for colour, texture and character, and we choose things that last, because a piece you love should still feel loved years from now. Here is exactly what goes into our jewellery, named plainly.

14ct gold filled

The findings that hold each piece together, the clasps, rings, connectors and chain, are 14ct gold filled. Not plated. It is a thick, bonded layer of real gold over a brass core, which means it keeps its warmth for years rather than fading in a season. It costs us more and we use it anyway. Glass

Much of the colour in our work comes from glass. We use Czech glass beads, known for their depth and consistency, Japanese Miyuki seed beads for the fine detail, and handmade glass for charms and statement pieces. Glass lets us build palettes that feel soft and warm rather than flat, and no two handmade beads are ever quite identical. You can read more in our guide to Murano and handmade glass jewellery.

Gemstones and pearls

Where we use natural stones, we use them for what they are. Aventurine, amazonite and other semi precious stones bring their own quiet colour and weight, and freshwater pearls add a soft, organic contrast. Each stone sits a little differently from the next, which is part of the point of a handmade piece. If you like to choose by stone, our gemstone jewellery guide is a good place to start.

Named honestly

We call things by their real names. If a bead is glass, we say glass. If a stone is amazonite, we say amazonite. We do not invent gemstone names to make a piece sound more precious than it is. Honest materials are simply part of how elsket is made, not a marketing line.

Made by hand in Brisbane

Every piece is strung on stainless steel wire for strength and made to order by hand in our home studio in Brisbane. Nothing is mass produced, and nothing sits in a warehouse waiting. As elsket grows, we will also explore handmade techniques such as crochet, knitting and macramé, the same care in new forms.
